
Poojas during Ganesh Chaturthi are incomplete without
Panchamrit. This sweet ayurvedic concoction is used in every pooja as an
offering to the deities and during ‘abhisheka’, the rite of bathing the gods.
Many times, it is served with suji ka halwa in the form of prasad. Derived from
the Sanskrit words ‘panch’ meaning five and ‘amrut’ meaning immortal or ‘nectar
of the gods’, Panchamrit consists of five main ingredients; when combined in
the right quantity, they are believed to enhance the quality of each other.
Each of these ingredients are also supposed to have a symbolic significance:

1. In a clean bowl, combine the milk and yogurt.
2. Add the honey, sugar, and ghee to the mixture.
3. Stir gently until all ingredients are well
combined.
4. The Panchamrit is now ready to be offered to Lord
Ganesha during the puja.
